The Beavercreek Beavers battled the Centerville Elks Friday night, falling short 31-29.  Centerville struck first on a 55-yard touchdown pass to take an early 7-0 lead.  It would be the only pass the Elks would complete in the game.  The Beavers answered with a drive ending in a missed field goal opportunity.  Centerville added another score before Beavers’ QB Mike Berry scampered in from 15 yards out to get the Beavers on the board and cut the lead to 14-7.  Centerville put together another scoring drive to take a 21-7 halftime lead.  They would add to that by scoring on their opening drive of the second half to go up 28-7.  That’s when the Beavers’ responded on both sides of the ball.  The defense shut down the Centerville rushing attack and Mike Berry found Jared Waters on scoring strikes of 45 and 24 yards to cut the deficit to 28-21.  The Elks added a field goal with 2:08 remaining to stretch the lead to 31-21.  But the Beavers were not finished, as Berry found Waters again on a 7-yard touchdown pass and the Beavers converted the 2-point try to narrow the margin to 31-29.  With only 27 seconds remaining, the Beavers executed a great onside kick but were unable to recover the ball.  Senior QB Mike Berry lead the Beavers with 96 yards rushing and a touchdown, and also passed for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night.  All three scoring strikes were to Jared Waters.  Defensively, Airius Moore had a season-high 20 tackles, including 10 solo tackles.  Micheal Carroll, Thomas Baker, and Tyler Reasoner also chipped in with double-digit tackles.  The Beavers fall to 4-5 on the season and will face Fairmont at home in the season finale next Friday night.
