The 2016 season gets underway on Thursday night as Beavercreek plays host to Xenia in a game to be televised live on Fox 45.  Beavercreek has opened the season with Xenia the past two seasons with drastically different outcomes in each.  Xenia spoiled Beavercreek’s home opener in 2014 with a surprising 50-7 thumping of the Beavers.  In 2015, the Beavers returned the favor in the first game on Xenia’s new field, rolling the Bucs 45-7.  Gone are many of the key players from these two recent matchups, as Xenia had a senior-laden team last year and Beavercreek returns only a few starters on each side of the ball.  No team has won back-to-back games since Beavercreek went on a four-game streak from 2006 through 2009.  Beavercreek has a chance to make it two in row.

KEY TO THE GAME:  Beavercreek returns some experience and depth on defense, which will be the key to this game.  Xenia will be breaking in a new quarterback, who will have to face an experienced defensive backfield with seniors Jack Kowalski and Julian Linkhart and junior Jordan Williams.  Senior Jack Knipper wreaked havoc in last year’s game by putting pressure on Xenia QB Danny Naylor, forcing Naylor into many hurried throws.  On offense, Beavercreek has some experience on the offensive line and in the backfield, but will also be breaking in a new QB with Cody Hocker or Jake Maloney taking the snaps.  The Beavers rushed for 405 yards in last year’s win — if the Bucs can’t stop the run, this one may not be close.
