The Beavers are set for their 2017 home opener Friday night against the Fairborn Skyhawks.  Beavercreek comes in at 2-0 after opening the season with road wins at Xenia and Carroll.  Fairborn is 1-1 following a season-opening win against Tecumseh and a loss last week at Bellbrook.  The Skyhawks have not beaten the Beavers since 2009, when they escaped Zink Field with a 13-10 overtime win.

Beavercreek enters the game with one of the top rushing attacks in the area, averaging 345 yards per game and currently ranking second in the GWOC.  Senior running back Kaden Wenger began the season with a huge game at Xenia, rushing for 235 yards on 30 carries.  Wenger was held to just 27 yards at Carroll, but senior QB Cody Hocker picked up the slack by rushing for 145 yards and three scores.  In prior games, Fairborn has struggled to contain Beavercreek’s rushing attack, giving up 491 yards on the ground a year ago in a 35-14 setback.  In the last five meetings between the two schools, Beavercreek has averaged 432 yards rushing per game against the Skyhawks – by far the most per game than any other opponent on the Beavers’ schedule.  This year, Fairborn’s rush defense is respectable, giving up just over 140 yards per contest.  If the trend continues and Beavercreek rushes for over 400 yards, it will be a long night for the Skyhawks.

On the other side of the ball, the Beavs’ boast the GWOC’s top overall defense, yielding just 111 yards per game and giving up just 10 points on average per game.  In its first two games, Beavercreek has been able to create turnovers and control the line of scrimmage.  Beavercreek should have a size advantage against the Skyhawks up front and Creek’s speedy linebackers may make it difficult for Fairborn to establish any kind of running game.  Look for the Beavers to control the clock and the tempo of the game — should be a good home opener.  Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.  GO BEAVERS!
