Creek
Freshman Drop A Heart Breaker
The Beavercreek High School freshman
football team played through the cold, wet, and rainy
conditions on Thursday evening, but in the end suffered
a last second 14 – 6 loss to Xenia. Jake Berman accounted for the lone
Beavercreek score with a 5 yard run to the end zone in
the fourth quarter. Berman had 35 total rushing yards
for the game.
Other offensive highlights for the Beavers included Tyler
Mclean running for 55 yards and Wade Bunn pounding out
78 yards on the ground.
In a word,
Beavercreek was tremendous on special team efforts. Mike Smidler and
Ian Vickers both recovered defensive on-sides kicks;
Nick Jones started the game with a booming 60 yard
kick-off; and Tim Mitchell provided a spectacular 83
yard kick-off return to the end zone only to see it
called back for a late, unusual penalty.
Defensively,
Jake Berman, Blaise Dilley, Joe Joyce, Wade Bunn, Ian
Vickers, Aaron Carnes and Tim Mitchell combined for 53
tackles for the Beavers. Other defensive highlights
included a key fumble recovery by Joe Herman and a drive
stopping interception – also by Herman. Additionally,
Tim Mitchell and Austin Bach combined for a crucial
tackle on a
Xenia
fourth down attempt while Joe Joyce and Aaron Carnes
teamed for a pivotal stop on a Xenia two point
conversion attempt.
This
was the final game for the Beavercreek freshman squad.
Based on skill progression, maturity development, and
team unity the season was a success. This group of fine
student athletes will bring high hopes, athletic talent,
and a desire to win to the Beavercreek Junior Varsity
and Varsity teams next year.

Springfield South |
Beavercreek Freshman Defeat Springfield South
The
Beavercreek High School freshman football team stormed
into Springfield and crushed the Springfield South
Wildcats 28 - 6 on October 13th.
Beavercreek
started the scoring early in the first quarter when Jake
Berman pounded in the first touchdown from 3 yards out –
Berman had a grand total of 42 rushing yards and 50
passing yards for the game.
Creek’s second score came on a four yard plunge by Berman.
This score was set-up by an 80 yard kick-off return from
Joe Joyce. The Beaver’s third score came as the
second quarter clock ran out. Jake Berman found Joe
Joyce in the back of the end zone and hooked-up for a 26
yard passing touchdown.
Beavercreek’s
final score came in the fourth quarter when Wade Bunn
executed a perfect fake punt. Bunn took the direct snap
from Nick Jones and completed a 55 yard pass to Joe
Joyce. Excellent open field running was complimented
with outstanding special teams blocking to ensure the
touchdown.
The
Beavercreek scoring was rounded out by Wade Bunn who was perfect on all
point after touch down attempts.
Other Beavercreek offensive highlights were Tyler Mclean
rushing for 55 yards; an acrobatic 26 yard reception by
Gavin Moore; Greg Caudill pounding out 40 yards on the
ground; outstanding line blocking by Nick Jones, Michael
Butcher, Jeremy Evans and Trey Grace; and combined
running by Katy Yoder, Beau Slater, and Mike Haney to
obtain key fourth quarter first downs and kill the game
clock.
Defensively the Beaver’s were tenacious and impressive
the entire game -- highlights were numerous as well as
timely. On South’s initial drive, Aaron Carnes and
Wade Bunn provided a crushing, fumble causing tackle --
Ian Vickers instantaneously recovered the fumble. Jake
Berman and Joe Herman had key interceptions which
effectively halted wildcat drives. Carnes and Herman
also forced a botched punt which led to a
Beavercreek score. Joe Joyce, Blaise Dilley, and Aaron Carnes recorded key
quarterback sacks resulting in 28 negative yards for
South. Joyce, Berman, Carnes, Bunn, Dilley and
Greg Caudill had a combined 30 tackles to lead the
defensive efforts.

Beavers
fall to Elks
Beavercreek's freshman football team suffered a tough 27
– 0 loss to the
Centerville
Elks Wednesday October 5th at the
Centerville varsity field. Offensive highlights
for the Beavers included Tyler Mclean passing for 76
yards and running for 20; Greg Caudill grinding out 58
yards on the ground; Jake Berman pounding out 26 rushing
yards; Tim Mitchell providing 54 total return yards; and
Joe Herman pulling-in a tremendous 48 yard reception.
Defensively, Jake Berman, Blaise Dilley, Joe
Joyce,
Wade Bunn and Ian Vickers combined for 33 tackles for the
Beavers. Berman also had a key fumble recovery.

Beavercreek Freshman fall to Wayne
The Beavercreek HS freshman
football team played with desire, determination, and
heart until the final second, but still suffered a tough
21 – 6 loss to the Wayne HS Freshman Thursday,
29 September. Greg Caudill accounted for the lone
Beavercreek score on a second quarter 6 yard run –
Caudill finished the game with 55 rushing yards. Other
offensive highlights for the Beavers included Tyler
Mclean running for 66 yards and passing for 43 yards;
Jake Berman pounding out 58 all-purpose yards; Tim
Mitchell providing 85 total return yards; and
outstanding run blocking by Trey Grace, Nick Jones, and
Jeremy Evans. Defensively, Jake Berman, Blaise Dilley,
Joe Joyce, Wade Bunn and Joe Herman combined for 33
tackles for the Beavers. Additional defensive
highlights included a jarring tackle by Shawn Lai which
led to a Tim Mitchell fumble recovery; Jeremy Jones
providing two drive stopping interceptions; and two
critical fourth-down stops by the line of Blaise Dilley,
Wade Bunn, and Ian Vickers.

Creek Freshmen Win Two
In-A-Row
The BHS
freshman football team continued their winning pattern
with a 27 – 0 shut-out of the Springfield North
Panthers on Thursday evening. Beavercreek started the
scoring early in the first quarter when Greg Caudill
pounded in the first touchdown from a yard out – Caudill
had a grand total of 95 rushing yards for the game.
Creek’s second score came on a four yard plunge by Jake
Berman – Berman finished the game with an awesome 126
ground yards. The Beaver’s third touchdown was provided
by Joe Joyce on a tremendous 48 yard punt return to the
house. Beavercreek’s final score came on a spectacular
45 yard run to the end zone by Michael Smidler. Berman
was successful on 3-of-4 point after kicks to round out
the scoring. Other offensive highlights included Jeremy
Jones rushing for 51 yards on 4 key carries, offensive
fumble recoveries by Michael Butcher and Greg Caudill,
and tremendous line work by Nick Jones and Trey Grace.
Defensively, the Beavers were led by Shawn Lai who had 8
tackles. Aaron Carnes, Jake Berman, Blaise Dilley, Joey
Herman, Joe Joyce and Ben Scarlett supported Lai with a
combined 17 tackles and 4 blocked passes. Other
Defensive highlights included a key fourth-down sack
Austin Bach causing a 20 yard loss, fumble recoveries by
Tyler Mclean and Zach Niebert, two interceptions by
Jeremy Jones (his third and fourth of the season), and
an overall outstanding effort by the line and secondary
to maintain the shut-out.

Beavercreek Freshman Beat Lebanon
9/15/2005 . . . The
BHS freshman football team blasted
into the win column with a 21 – 20 defeat of the
previously undefeated Lebanon Warriors. Beavercreek
started the scoring early in the first quarter when Tim
Mitchell sacked the quarterback in the end zone for a
safety. The remainder of the Beavercreek scoring was
provided by Jake Berman and Greg Caudill -- Berman added
two touch downs on the ground while recording 80 rushing
yards and Caudill ran for a touch down on his way to
accumulating 108 ground yards. Other offensive
highlights included a key 20 yard reception from Tyler
Mclean to Joe Joyce, 40 total return yards for Wade
Bunn, and an overall outstanding job of blocking by the
offensive line. Defensively, the Beavers were led by
Jeremy Jones. Jones had an acrobatic interception,
exceptional special team support, and a team high 12
tackles. Tim Mitchell, Jake Berman, Nick Posey, and
Isaac Peppers supported Jones with a combined 16
tackles. Austin Bach also had an outstanding
interception to halt a Warrior drive. Other game
highlights included a booming 55 yard punt by Berman; a
crucial 2-point conversion stop by
Mclean; and an overall outstanding team effort on both sides of the ball by the
Beavers.

Beavercreek Freshman fall at Troy . . .
The Beavercreek High School freshman
football team suffered a tough 18 – 0 loss at
Troy
High School
to the Troy Freshman Thursday, 8 September. Offensive
highlights for the Beavers included Jake Berman grinding
out 43 yards on the ground; Greg Caudill pounding out 29
rushing yards; Tyler Mclean running for 25 yards; and
Jeremy Jones scampering for 21 yards. Joe Joyce led the
air attack with four receptions totaling 70 yards the
best being a 35 yard hook-up from Wade Bunn on a
successful fake punt. Defensively, Jake Berman, Blaise
Dilley, Joe Joyce, and Michael Smidler combined for 25
tackles for the Beavers. The Beaver secondary was
incredibly strong, holding the Trojans to only 33 yards
through the air. Other game highlights included fumble
recoveries by Jeremy Jones and Zach Neibert; a booming 47 yard punt by Wade Bunn; and the debut of Isaac
Peppers and Ian Vickers - two fine additions to the
Freshman squad.

Thursday, 1 September, the Beavers lost their second
game in a close matched contest to Fairmont. Offensively the Beavers were led by Jake Berman with 55
rushing yards and Greg Caudill who had 48 yards on the
ground. Berman also passed for 15 yards hooking-up with
Joe Joyce for a key completion. Defensively, Blaise
Dilley, Joe Joyce, and Wade Bunn combined for 18 tackles
-- Nicholas Jones snagged a fumble recovery and Jake
Berman and Zach Niebert added interceptions.

Tough start for Beavercreek Freshman . . .
The Beavercreek High School freshman
football team started their season on a disappointing
note with a loss to the Carroll Freshman at Zink field
Saturday, 27 August. Offensive highlights for the
Beavers included Joe Joyce’s 77 all-purpose yards; Tyler
Mclean running for 41 yards and passing for 70 yards;
and Jake Berman pounding out 31 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Blaise Dilley, Dillon Bybee, and Andrew
Coleman combined for 15 tackles for the Beavers.
Carroll offensive efforts were led by David McComas who
had three touchdown runs totaling 115 yards and Mike
Escobar with 65 yards passing. Travis Buell led the
Patriot defensive charge with a strong middle linebacker
performance. |
